Our History

ChristianTeacher.org was founded by classroom teacher Jane Kulp in July of 2002 in response to a comment heard "one too many times" during a Sunday morning sermon. She remembers cringing each time the pastor, an outstanding Bible scholar and speaker, said, "You’ll never hear this in our public schools."

"Wrong!" she wanted to proclaim, "You can hear it in my fifth-grade classroom."

Later she talked with several public school educators who shared her reaction. Many Christian teachers are learning what their rights are according to the courts and the Constitution. They are learning how to successfully blend their teaching responsibilities as set forth in God's Word with their teaching responsibilities as set forth in standards-based curriculum guides.

One principal of a public elementary school said, "We need to let the pastor know what we are doing, and we need to encourage more Christian educators to join us." Jane felt called to lead the way, and within days ChristianTeacher.org was born.

Our Staff

B. Jane Kulp, founder and contributor

Jane transitioned into the public school classroom after 21 years as a librarian/media specialist in schools, churches, and public libraries. During those years she had articles published in Keys to Christian Education, Family Life Today, Sunday School Counselor, The Lookout, The Alliance Magazine, The Edge, and other Christian magazines. She also created the "Jesus' Apostles Game" which was published by Standard Publishing Co. in 1982. Jane has both a B.S. and an M.S. in Library Science with additional certification in media. In 2000 she completed the requirements of her state for certification in Elementary Education, and in 2001 she graduated with a Masters in Religious Education from Luther Rice Seminary. During 2002 she successfully completed the certification process of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).  In May 2004 she was recognized by her school district as their Social Studies Teacher of the Year.  Today, in addition to teaching full-time, Jane conducts teacher training workshops and mentors other teachers, helping them to become the best they can be.

Rev. Andrew P. Kulp, site developer and advisor

Andrew, the youngest of Jane's three children, is currently working as an architect while he seeks God's place for him in full-time ministry. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Auburn University and a Masters of Divinity from The Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism, and Church Growth at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his seminary training via a unique extension program in Auburn, Alabama, while serving as a pastoral intern at Lakeview Baptist Church. As an intern he has experienced every area of ministry in the church, serving under each of the staff ministers by rotation. He also participated in an overseas project in Ghana, West Africa, and a North American Mission Board project in Maryland plus several Carpenters for Christ mission projects. Andrew is the author of Gifted 2 Serve: Finding Your Place in Ministry and is available as a conference speaker.  Further information is available at BuildingChurch.net.
